Sometime after the onset of Covid last year, having a food truck come and set up shop for a day in area subdivisions started to become a thing. A couple of months ago, the idea got kicked off in our subdivision when a local coffee and doughnuts truck was invited in a couple of times and did quite well.
Fast forward a few weeks when we noticed a post on our subdivision Facebook page gauging interest for a visit by Mother Clucker’s, a Newnan-based food truck. Folks in the subdivision were pretty interested and a date and location were set. Like most food trucks, Mother Clucker’s menu is fairly limited, four entrées, two sides, a kid’s option, a desert option, and canned drinks.
Early this afternoon I told ConnieLou to take a look at the menu that was posted on Facebook and let me know what she wanted so I could go place our orders early before they had a chance to run out of anything, as sometimes happens with food trucks. For our entrées ConnieLou wanted chicken and waffles with their sweet sauce. I wanted the Buffalo Rolls (imagine if you will, an egg roll with Buffalo chicken inside) and we both selected the pimento mac–n-cheese and a drink came with our meals.
The service was fairly quick and in short order I was headed home with our food. Only one problem…it was going to be a little while before ConnieLou got home and the smell of fried chicken was creeping into every corner of the downstairs of our house and it was smelling mighty good.
ConnieLou finally made it home from work and we dug in. My Buffalo rolls were a bit different than I was expecting. Instead of bites of fried chicken with buffalo sauce and some veggie filler wrapped up in an egg roll wrapper and deep fried, I was happy to find the egg roll wrapper was completely filled with shredded chicken with Buffalo sauce. The entrée included baby carrots, celery strips and a small container of bleu cheese dressing. ConnieLou’s chicken and waffles consisted of a waffle and fried chicken cut into bite-size pieces with a sweet sauce. The pimiento mac-n-cheese…well, what else can I say. Exactly as described.
So how did Mother Clucker’s fare on the Thumbs Scale? We gave Mother Clucker’s a fairly solid one and a half thumbs. My buffalo rolls were mighty tasty. ConnieLou’s chicken and waffles were good but the chicken was a bit overdone, thus the half thumb deduct. All in all, we were pretty pleased and will be looking forward to Mother Clucker’s return to our subdivision.
One final thought, about chicken and waffles…I’ve never quite understood the great attraction and, after having a bite of ConnieLou’s, I have to admit that I still don’t. Don’t get me wrong here, they weren’t bad at all. I just don’t get the combo.
