Night three of our CSB vacation.

If you’re not familiar with Toucan’s, think Pineapple Willie’s in Panama City Beach. It’s a local institution, as they say…

It was fairly crowded when we arrived and we had about a 45 minute wait. We took the wait as an opportunity to order a couple of frozen concoctions and check up on email and social media since there was 3G cellular service (there’s little to none out on the Cape). We got lucky and were seated ‘outside’ in the section of the restaurant overlooking the beach and where there was a nice sea breeze to keep things cool.

I ordered a fried oyster po-boy, ConnieLou ordered a fish sandwich, Ashley selected the jumbo fried shrimp and Jenna got the shrimp and crab cake sliders. All of our entree’s came with fries. As much as I hate to say it, we were all a bit underwhelmed with our food. It wasn’t that the food was bad by any means, it just didn’t really click with any of us. We’ve been to Toucan’s a couple of times before and it just seemed ‘off’ compared to previous visits.

Also, our service was a bit ‘off’ as well. Maybe it was late and had been a long night, who knows, but something just wasn’t clicking.

On the Thumbs Scale, Toucan’s also received 4.5 thumbs-up out of a possible eight. As ConnieLou told someone who asked about Toucan’s as we walked up from the parking lot, “it’s more about the atmosphere than the food”. Will we be back? Time will tell but I suspect we probably will. We’ve had enough good experiences to let one not so good experience be a deal killer…but next time our expectations might be a little lower.
